Kvika Reykjavik Open 2022

The Reykjavik Open will return to its normal setting in the Harpa music and conference center in 2022. The dates have been set from the 6th of April until the 12th of April. We will play 9 rounds in 7 days! The tournament will again be an open tournament after having “doubled” as the European Championship last year.

The last time the Reykjavik Open was held in its usual form before the pandemic in 2019 the tournament featured 238 players from 32 countries and the field included 31 grandmasters, 12 of which had an ELO-rating of 2600 or higher.

Rate of play : is 90 min for 40 moves + 30 minutes after move 40. Increment of 30 sec. for every move starting from move one.
FIDE rules apply. We will enforce Article 6.7.1 in the following manner: Any player who arrives at the chessboard after the default time – 30 minutes – shall lose the game unless the arbiter decides otherwise.

Electronic device/mobile phones (Articles 11.3.2.1,2,3): During a game, a player is forbidden to have a mobile phone, electronic means of communication or any device capable of suggesting chess moves on their person in the playing venue. However, such devices can be stored in a player’s bag, as long as the device is completely switched off. A player is forbidden to carry a bag holding such a device, without permission of the arbiter. If it is evident that a player has such a device on their person in the playing venue, the player shall lose the game. The opponent shall win.

3. Median Buchholz
4. The greater number of wins

Bye-rules

Players are allowed two half-point byes in rounds 1-7, provided they give adequate notice and sign the bye-request paper by the arbiters’ table.

elllobregat Open Chess TnmT- 2nd Edition 2021

elllobregat Open Chess Tournament has the approval and support of the Catalan Chess Federation, and will be held from November 30 and to December 8, 2021.

Our first edition in 2019, had the highest ELO average of all the tournaments disputed in Spain and has granted 7 norms (3 GM, 2 IM and 2-WIM). ELO is establishes the ranking of a chess player.

2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss and Women’s Grand Swiss: the lists of players

FIDE is pleased to confirm the list of players who will take part in the 2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Tournament and the inaugural Women’s Grand Swiss. Altogether 164 players will be participating.

The Grand Swiss tournament will see 114 players from 39 federations take part. The world’s second highest-rated player and former contender for the title of World Champion, American Fabiano Caruana, leads the lineup. He is joined by other leading world heavyweights such as Levon Aronian, Alexander Grischuk, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, as well as the top-10 newcomers, Richard Rapport and Alireza Firouzja.

FIDE has awarded special wild cards to more than 20 players, ensuring that the strongest world juniors and players from all continents take part.

The average rating of the players in the Grand Swiss is 2647, making this the strongest Swiss-system chess tournament in the world.

This year the inaugural Women’s Grand Swiss will be played as well, bringing together the top 50 women players from 26 federations. The field is led by the former European Women’s Champion and currently ranked fifth women’s player in the world, Kateryna Lagno. She is joined by Mariya Muzychuk, Alexandra Kosteniuk and Nana Dzagnidze, from the women’s top-10 list. The average rating of players in the Women’s tournament is 2417.

The 2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Tournament and Women’s Grand Swiss will be held from the 25th of October to the 8th of November at the Hanzas Perons Cultural Centre in Riga, Latvia. Both tournaments are part of the qualifications for the 2021-23 World Championship cycle, with the top two players in the open event qualifying for the 2022 Candidates Tournament and the following six securing spots in the Grand Prix. The winner of the Women’s Grand Swiss will qualify directly for the Women Candidates and four best players will qualify for the next year’s Women’s Grand Prix.

25th European Women’s Chess Club Cup 2021

The 36th European Club Cup and the 25th European Club Cup for Women will take place from 17th-25th September 2021 in Struga, Ohrid Lake, North Macedonia.

The championships will be held in 7 rounds, played in the Swiss system following the ECU Tournament Rules. According to FIDE and ECU rules, the time control will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

Each European federation is allowed to take part in this competition. According to the regulations, participation is open to:

Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova, Italy, the current cup holder in the open competition.
Five (5) clubs per federation in which a national team championship is organized or four (4) clubs per federation in which no national team championship is organized.
There is no restriction on how the National federations will select the clubs
The ECU Board should examine any additional request for participation
In the Women competition, all the club members of ECU Federations are allowed to participate.
Clubs shall be registered through the National chess Federations or direct if there is no objection from the National Chess Federation.
All players’ fees and composition restrictions are waived only for 2021 by the ECU board’s decision.
Every federation that intends to participate with one or more clubs must inform the Organizing Committee before August 01, 2021, of its acceptance of the invitation, specifying the number of the clubs participating. A copy should be sent to the Tournament Director, Mr. Petr Pisk, email: petr.pisk@centrum.cz

Afterward, entry forms must be completed and returned to the Tournament office email sk_kapablanka@outlook.com; with copy mail to: chessmkd@t.mk no later than August 01, 2021.

The date of August 15, 2021, is the registration deadline. The basic team composition shall be submitted with the entry form.

Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour. 2 этап

В турнире принимают участие две сильнейшие шахматистки Казахстана Абдумалик Жансая и Садуакасова Динара.

The Gelfand Challenge is a 20-player rapid round-robin taking place on chess24 from June 10-13. The second of five events on the $100,000 Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour, it features two teams of 10 young players captained by Vladimir Kramnik and Judit Polgar. The winner earns $3,000 as well as a place on the next event on the $1.5 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, starting June 26. The time control is 10 minutes for all moves, with a 5-second increment per move starting from move 1. The winner is decided by individual points, but the players’ scores also count towards team standings. After the tour is over the best scoring team earns a trip to the World Chess Championship match in Dubai.

SELFOSS CHESS FESTIVAL

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Chess Club Selfoss and its neighbour and over 100 years of chess history in South Iceland, an international chess festival will be held in Selfoss.

The international chess festival will be held at Hotel Selfoss 19th-29th of November. The festival will hold a chess tournament with 10 former world chess champions in their age group.

At the same time, there will be The south open tournament, where the competition will be won for the Southern national title.
The festival will also host the Icelandic Championships in Fischer Random Chess.

More notable events will be at the festival such as Seminar presentation and panel discussions, blitz tournament, pub quiz and arbiter seminar.

Selfoss Chess-Festival 2019 World Champions Group

SELFOSS CHESS FESTIVAL

The primary purpose of this tournament is to fill one of the eight places in the Candidates’ Tournament to be held in the first half of 2020. It features a phenomenal field of 160 leading players who aspire to the title and an eye-popping first prize of $70,000, with a total prize fund of $432,500. The latter detail has also attracted the two biggest names of all, Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana, who head a competitor list featuring 26* players rated 2700 or more.
