The Superbet Chess Classic is a 10-player classical round-robin taking place in the Grand Hotel in Bucharest, Romania from 6-15 May 2023. It’s the first stage on the 2023 Grand Chess Tour, with a $350,000 total prize fund and a $100,000 top prize.

The players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment per move starting from move one.

The 2022 FTX Crypto Cup sees Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, Hans Niemann and Praggnanandhaa gather in the Eden Roc Miami Beach Hotel in Miami, Florida for the 2nd Major on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.

$210,000 and a $100,000 Bitcoin bonus is at stake in the 7-round all-play-all tournament. Each match consists of 4 rapid games on the chess24 Playzone, with the winner earning $7,500 (3 points). If the match is tied there’s a blitz tiebreak, with 2 blitz games followed, if needed, by a single Armageddon game.

The winner earns $5,000 (2 points) and the loser $2,500 (1). For each rapid game the players have 15 minutes for all their moves, with a 10-second increment after each move. For blitz games it’s 5 minutes and a 3-second increment, while for the Armageddon game White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. No draw offers are allowed before move 40.

FTX Road to Miami begins this Sunday

Levon Aronian, Richard Rapport and Anish Giri are among the star players competing in the FTX Road to Miami, the 5th event on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. The 16-player tournament starting on chess24 this Sunday, July 10th is a prelude to the 2nd Major of the Tour, the FTX Crypto Cup, which will be held in Miami, Florida, with World Champion Magnus Carlsen returning and a $210,000 prize fund plus a $100,000 Bitcoin bonus.

The FIDE Candidates Tournament is barely over, but the big events just keep on coming. The 5th stage of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, the FTX Road to Miami, starts at 18:00 CEST on Sunday July 10th, with Levon Aronian top seed. Here are his Day 1 pairings.

As you can see, he’s facing two established stars in Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Anish Giri, as well as Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun and 18-year-old Indian prodigy Arjun Erigaisi.

The field features three of the Candidates — Teimour Radjabov, Richard Rapport and Jan-Krzysztof Duda, while Radoslaw Wojtaszek is making his tour debut alongside young US stars Jeffery Xiong and Sam Sevian. In fact there are no less than six US players, including Leinier Dominguez, Sam Shankland and 19-year-old Hans Niemann.

FIDE Candidates 2022 | Round 1

The tournament is played as a double round-robin (all play all twice) with 14 rounds. The time control for each game is 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 61. The players cannot draw a game by agreement before black’s 40th move. A claim for a draw before black’s 40th move is permitted only in cases of a draw by threefold repetition or a stalemate. If there is a tie for first place after 14 rounds, a playoff to determine the winner shall be played.
