ANNOUNCEMENT

The Sharjah Cultural & Chess Club (SCCC) is pleased to invite you to participate in the 5th Sharjah Masters 2022, which will be held at the Club’s premises, from May 20th (Arrival) to 30th (Departure).

5th Sharjah Masters (round 1)

Participation & Registration

● The event will be held as an Invitational Tournament, with (maximum) 80 players of FIDE Standard Rating of 2300 and above, as of May 2022 FIDE Rating List (Standard).
● Out of these 80 players the 60 will be selected by the middle of April 2022 (after relative Application) and the rest 20 will be given Wild Card participation permission.
● The highest rated player per federation will be invited to participate, after Application. Priority will be given to higher (over-the-board) titles and ratings. Exceptions can be given to the Wild Cards.
● All participating Players and Accompanying Persons are obliged to fully comply with the Rules and Regulations of the Tournament, the Organising Committee & the United Arab Emirates state.
● All event’s participants must present a Vaccination Certificate (pre-send by e-mail). All Participants must comply with the Safety & Sports Regulations of UAE.
● FIDE Name & FIDE-ID must be mentioned in any communication or Bank Transfer.
● Any participation’s Application must be pre-approved. The Organising Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any participant’s application according to FIDE Rules and Regulations, the UAE Laws and Health Reasons, or, finally, a Force Majeure.
● All Applications will be closed on April 15th (24:00 UAE Time) and only an online one is accepted via the tournament’s official e-mail, which is:

Data

● The tournament will be held as a 9-round Swiss System Type, with a Standard Time Control of a total of ninety (90) minutes & thirty (30) seconds increment per move starting from move one (1), for each player.
● Delay Time will be on thirty (30) minutes.
● The Playing Hall will be at the Sharjah Cultural & Chess Club (Sharjah, UAE) premises.
● The tournament will be FIDE Rated (Standard FIDE Rating List – FRL).

Invited Players

● The Organising Committee, taking into reference the Standard FIDE Rating List of May 2022 and prior Application & Approval, shall provide:
○ Invited GMs rated 2700+: Single-room accommodation with full board. Appearance Fee of USD 2.000.
○ Invited GMs rated 2650-2699: Shared double-room accommodation with full board. Appearance Fee of USD 500.
○ Invited GMs rated 2600-2649: Shared double-room accommodation with full board. Appearance Fee of USD 300.
○ Expected Hotel Departure will be on May 30th, 2022 before 12:00 noon. Late departure charges are to be borne by the participant.
● If a Player is given any of the above privileges, the Organising Committee will contact him/her directly with an official form to be signed and returned as instructed, via the official e-mail (shjchessmasters2020@gmail.com).
● The invited Players are also entitled to:
○ To and From the SCCC premises to the official Hotel (daily).
○ From and To Dubai (Terminals 1-2-3) or Sharjah airports to the official Hotel.
● The deadline for any Application is by April 15th.

Awards & Prizes

● Awards & Prizes will be distributed according to the following table.
● Note that the cash prizes will be in total of USD 60.000 (for both events). Cash Prizes will not be shared, but awarded by points and/or tie-break criteria, as per Article 8.USD 60.000.

Entry Fees

● The entry fees will be as following, as per title and FIDE rating (Standard FIDE-FRL) of May 2022:
● GMs & WGMs: USD 0.
● Rating 2600 and above: USD 0.
● Rating 2500-2600: USD 150.
● Rating 2400-2500: USD 300.
● Rating 2300-2400: USD 400.

General Rules

1. Time control is 90′ + 30» for all the game
2. Possible one 1/2 bye (half point bye) in first 6 rounds for Open A, and first 4 rounds for Open B
3. Maximum delay: 60 min
4. Prizes are not cumulative, and divided by Hort System
5. Mobile phones and electronic devices are not allowed. All mobile phones have to be left in the room or in the car,
or in any other place outside the playing hall.
6. Strict anti-cheating controls will be applied. Metal detector or inspections are possible.
7. The organizer or the arbiter may ask players to respect a minimum dress code.
8. Spectators cannot enter in the playing hall during the game.

17 января в 15:30 в Международном аэропорту г. Нур-Султан состоится встреча чемпионки мира по шахматам Бибисары Асаубаевой.

Напомним, что на чемпионате мира в столице Польши, Варшаве 17-летняя казахстанская шахматистка Бибисара Асаубаева заняла первое место в «блице» и стала самой молодой шахматисткой в истории мировых шахмат среди женщин.

Также, в данном чемпионате Бибисара заняла 2 место по быстрым шахматам (Рапид). В решающих партиях Бибисара обыграла опытного грузинского шахматиста — гроссмейстера Нану Дзагнидзе, свою соотечественницу Асель Серикбай и сыграла вничью с победителем международного чемпионата, гроссмейстером Александрой Костенюк.

2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss and Women’s Grand Swiss: the lists of players

FIDE is pleased to confirm the list of players who will take part in the 2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Tournament and the inaugural Women’s Grand Swiss. Altogether 164 players will be participating.

The Grand Swiss tournament will see 114 players from 39 federations take part. The world’s second highest-rated player and former contender for the title of World Champion, American Fabiano Caruana, leads the lineup. He is joined by other leading world heavyweights such as Levon Aronian, Alexander Grischuk, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, as well as the top-10 newcomers, Richard Rapport and Alireza Firouzja.

FIDE has awarded special wild cards to more than 20 players, ensuring that the strongest world juniors and players from all continents take part.

The average rating of the players in the Grand Swiss is 2647, making this the strongest Swiss-system chess tournament in the world.

This year the inaugural Women’s Grand Swiss will be played as well, bringing together the top 50 women players from 26 federations. The field is led by the former European Women’s Champion and currently ranked fifth women’s player in the world, Kateryna Lagno. She is joined by Mariya Muzychuk, Alexandra Kosteniuk and Nana Dzagnidze, from the women’s top-10 list. The average rating of players in the Women’s tournament is 2417.

The 2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Tournament and Women’s Grand Swiss will be held from the 25th of October to the 8th of November at the Hanzas Perons Cultural Centre in Riga, Latvia. Both tournaments are part of the qualifications for the 2021-23 World Championship cycle, with the top two players in the open event qualifying for the 2022 Candidates Tournament and the following six securing spots in the Grand Prix. The winner of the Women’s Grand Swiss will qualify directly for the Women Candidates and four best players will qualify for the next year’s Women’s Grand Prix.
